E. Kinast Distributors is a second generation family-owned, wholesale distributor of products sold to professional design and construction firms. With distribution throughout the upper Midwest, EKD’s core products include quality laminates and solid surfaces used for countertops, a broad range of functional cabinet hardware, along with a line of wood stains and finishes. Promontory was engaged to explore financing and strategic alternatives for the business which operated out of an 84,000 square foot facility owned by the family in suburban Chicago. Canadian-based Richelieu Hardware (RCH) offered the most attractive acquisition package for the owners of EKD, including a lease arrangement allowing the family to retain ownership of the building.
